How It All Started

The story of The River Community Church is shaped by two things—a lasting foundation of God’s work and a forward-moving vision for what He’s doing now.

For over 100 years, this property has been marked by God’s presence. As the home of one of the earliest Foursquare churches, it has been a place where lives were changed, faith was strengthened, and people encountered the power of God in real ways. Stories of miracles, transformation, and breakthrough have filled this space for generations—and they continue to shape who we are today.

The River Community Church began in 2003 as a simple Bible study at East Ventura Foursquare Church, led by Jim and Pam Duran. What started small quickly grew, and by the following year, they stepped out in faith to launch The River.

In those early days, the church met in homes, schools, and wherever space was available—trusting God every step of the way. They believed the church was never about a building, but about people, and were confident that God would provide a permanent home in His perfect timing—without the burden of heavy debt.

In 2012, that faith became reality. Pastor Jim and Pam received a call from their District Supervisor offering them a historic church property—one already filled with a powerful legacy of God’s work. They said yes, and The River found its home.

Today, The River continues to carry that legacy forward—loving God, loving people, and creating a place where everyone belongs. We’d love for you to join us this Sunday and become part of the story.
